CD loading problems

Hello there everyone!!
Loving the site by the way!..I wondered if someone might be able to help with my little problem.
I have one particularly awkward deck that will take a disk but not recognise its got it. Then you have to spend half an hour trying to get the unit to give it back via forced eject.
I have installed the new firmware on both units and its not affected the other which always works like clockwork.

The way to tell if its having an episode is if you tease it with a disk the screen should change to "loading" but it doesnt. but it will still take the disk but not have a clue its done it. Sometimes you can tease it with a disk until the screen changes but often it doesnt.

Ive had it apart and its like a surgery in there. very clean. so whats the problem? its like yin and yang these two units. ones ace!! and ones a pain in the ace!!

Any help GREATLY appreciated!! Cheers and keep em' spinning!!

Re: CD loading problems

Is it doing it with burned CDs or all CDs?

Re: CD loading problems

All cd's, if you notice when you pop a cd in the motors start on the cd carriage and the screen changes to the animation.
If you hold the disc back (not forcfully, you'l see what i mean)the screen changes before the machine actually grabs the disc.
Well my screen doesnt change..it just takes the disc and says "no disc"
However if you switch the unit on and off a few times it will eventually change screen when you offer it a disc, the animation for loading starts and everything fine..
So basically, No animation when the disc goes in means it hasnt got a clue its got a disc in it so refuses to eject..
Its as if whatever tells the processor that theres a disc coming in is on the blink.

I hope it makes sense..if i catch it on video i'l post a link..Thanks for your quick reply buddy.!

Re: CD loading problems

Your explanation makes sense, but I have never seen this problem before.  I think you may be right that whatever sensor that detects a CD is present may be defective.

Re: CD loading problems

Ive had a good read through the service manal and it seems to be an intermittent fault with the ribbon cable. Il have a good go at it today at some point.

Re: CD loading problems

Good let us know if that solves it.  That way we'll be able to help other users if the same symptoms come up.  If you can take pictures, we can host them.

Re: CD loading problems

Do you already have photo's of this process or is it something you will need to recreate? If you already have these step by step procedures we can add this to our knowledge base as a Sticky in the appropriate section.
